The recent controversy regarding alleged corruption in Detroit city government compels me to recall that the current Detroit City Charter does provide a mechanism to address such issues. The Charter, of course, is akin to the U.S. Constitution. It sets up and outlines the framework for City of Detroit government. It also establishes the form of government, its officials, how those officials are selected, their terms of office, as well as their duties and powers...
Over the last several years, Detroit has been the epicenter of many social ills that has attracted global attention: political corruption, growing unemployment, crime, pollution and plummeting housing value.
But in 2010, Detroit will also be the location of one of the largest organized grassroots protest efforts: The US Social Forum (USSF)...

As this nation’s unemployment numbers continuously rise, it is important to note that there is reason for hope. Currently, the U.S. Census Bureau is seeking 72 experienced managers for five offices that will be opening soon in Dearborn, Detroit, Livonia and Macomb County. The positions include local census office manager and assistant managers for the following: Field Operations, Quality Assurance, Recruiting, Administration and Technology. With just under 10 months before the 23rd Census of the United States on April 1, 2010, those who take on the job of manager in a local census office are embarking on a enormous challenge on this once-a-decade enumeration of the nation’s population...
